Our story

Tesoro del Oeste was born in the mountains of San Sebastián del Oeste, Jalisco, from the desire to recover and share one of the region's great gastronomic legacies: artisanal Raicilla.

What began as a personal interest became a quest to find its own profile, preserve knowledge passed down through generations, and create expressions capable of showcasing the diversity of agave and the character of the Sierra.

An idea born in the mountains

The founder of Tesoro del Oeste is an entrepreneur passionate about nature, adventure, and extreme sports. During his cycling and horseback riding trips through the mountains, he lived closely with the agaves that are part of the landscape and history of San Sebastián del Oeste.

Amidst trails, ravines, and wild agave fields, a question arose that would eventually give birth to the project: how to recover and give new life to the region's raicilla legacy?

The answer did not come immediately. It was an idea that took shape little by little until, in the middle of one night, it became a decision: to start the journey to produce a raicilla that respected its origin and, at the same time, expressed its own identity.

"It all began with the desire to recover this great gastronomic legacy and share the richness of the agaves that inhabit our mountains."

— Founder of Tesoro del Oeste

The search for

a unique flavor

Finding an identity wasn't just about creating a spirit. It was necessary to understand the agaves, respect their timing, work alongside those who know the craft, and perform multiple tests until reaching the profile that represented Tesoro del Oeste's vision.

For over a year, the team worked to find that balance. Each test allowed them to refine the process, recognize new nuances, and get closer to an expression with its own character.

When they finally found the flavor they were looking for, the feeling was akin to discovering something that had always been hidden among the mountains.

“It took us just over a year to find our flavor and our profile. When we did, it amazed us as if we had discovered a great Treasure.”

— Founder of Tesoro del Oeste

A new stage began in 2021. The project focused on perfecting its processes and developing different expressions of raicilla, each with particular characteristics depending on the agave, the selection of the distillate, and its production.

The result is a portfolio that seeks to show that the Sierra does not have a single flavor and that raicilla can be expressed in different ways.

"After 2021, we dedicated ourselves to perfecting every detail and creating different expressions that have now captivated the palates of Mexican spirit lovers."

Tradition Passed Down Through Generations

Tesoro del Oeste works to protect and recover the legacy of raicilla, a spirit deeply linked to the land, the agaves, and the communities that have preserved its production.

The project maintains artisanal processes based on knowledge passed down from generation to generation by the "taberneros" and master raicilla producers.

In the region's tradition, the "tabernero" is much more than the person who transforms agave into raicilla. They are the one who interprets the raw material, recognizes the cooking and fermentation times, guides the distillation, and makes decisions that directly influence the character of each batch.

Each bottle is the result of that relationship between nature, knowledge, time, and human labor.

“Raicilla doesn't begin in the bottle. It begins in the earth, in the agave, and in the knowledge of those who have learned to transform it.”

The root carver

Chuy Dueñas, guardian of the process

Behind Tesoro del Oeste's expressions lies the knowledge and experience of Chuy Dueñas, a master raicillero responsible for transforming agaves into a spirit with its own identity.

His relationship with this craft began in childhood, when he received knowledge that had been passed down from one generation to the next. Today, his work keeps that heritage alive and applies it at each stage of the process.

From agave selection to distillation, Chuy observes, interprets, and makes decisions that cannot rely solely on formulas. The temperature, the aromas, the fermentation behavior, and accumulated experience indicate when to move forward and how to preserve the character of each production.

His work represents the meeting between the region's memory and the evolution of Tesoro del Oeste.

“The knowledge of the raicillero is not acquired solely through instruction. It is developed by observing, listening, and working alongside those who know the trade.”

From an expression

to a collection

Different paths to discover raicilla

The first expression was just the beginning. Over time, Tesoro del Oeste continued to explore different agaves, profiles, and selections to build a collection capable of showcasing the diversity of Sierra raicilla.

Some expressions are fresh and fruity. Others display herbal, complex, intense, or aged profiles. Each one represents a different way of approaching the territory and the work of those involved in its production.

This evolution does not seek to stray from tradition but to demonstrate that the same legacy can have multiple interpretations.

A Treasure Still Under Construction

Tesoro del Oeste was born from a personal concern, grew through collaboration, and continues to develop thanks to the knowledge of those who keep the raicilla craft alive.

The story does not end with a bottle or an expression. It continues with each agave growing in the Sierra, with each artisan production, and with each person who discovers raicilla from San Sebastián del Oeste for the first time.

Because some treasures are not found by chance. They are recognized, protected, and shared.
