WHAT IS THE RAICILLA

The raicilla is an ancestral distillate of agave, a kind of mezcal. It is harvested in the territory covered by the raicilla appellation of origin.

TYPES OF RAICILLA

It is divided into 2 types of raicilla, the raicilla of the sierra and the raicilla of the coast.

  • RAICILLA FROM THE MOUNTAINS  
    • Include the municipalities of Mascota, San Sebastián del Oeste, Atenguillo, etc. a más de 1500msnm y con los agaves Maximiliana e Inequidens principalmente.
  • RAICILLA FROM THE COAST
    • They include the municipalities of Tomatlán and Cabo Corrientes with altitudes between 50 and 1350 meters above sea level and use agaves angustifolia, Rhodacantha and Valenciana..

Depending on the origin of the agaves, each one has a unique flavor and personality.

As a finished product, it is a colorless liquid, although its color and flavor may vary when matured in wooden containers, or when it is opened without maturing.

The raicilla has a denomination of origin since June 28, 2019, granted by the Mexican government to be produced in the areas of the Sierra Madre Occidental, Sierra de Amula, South Coast and North Coast. The raicilla distilleries are known as Tabernas.
